About
I offer a safe space for you to wonder aloud about yourself and the world you live in. So many problems in life become more manageable and more meaningful once we are able to articulate our feelings about them. And this is not something we are always given the time or space to do.My role as a psychodynamic therapist is to be there with you as you go about this sometimes difficult work, making new sense of your life.Everyone's path to therapy is unique. I work with people from diverse backgrounds, have extensive experience working with persons from other cultures, including East and South Asia, and a particular expertise in helping those who are negotiating the many challenges of life in a new city, a new country, and a new culture.
Practice
Most of us have one version of ourselves that we present to the world and another quieter version that we rarely get to examine. Psychodynamic therapy is an invitation to look more closely at that inner life. The idea is simple, even if the process isn't always easy: the more we understand ourselves (our patterns, our history, the feelings we've bottled up or pushed aside) the more freedom we have to live differently. Things that once felt automatic, like how we respond to conflict, or the relationships we find ourselves in again and again, begin to make a new kind of sense. And when things make sense, they start to feel less like walls and more like doors. In practice, this means we talk. We follow what feels important to you. Perhaps a memory, a dream, a frustration you can't quite name. There's no fixed agenda. Instead, we pay close attention to what comes up, and together we try to understand what it might mean. Over time, a picture emerges of who you are, how you came to be this way, and what might be getting in your way.The goal isn't to fix you. It's to help you become more fully yourself. And to discover that this, in itself, is enough to change things.
